Bakuriani

 

Bakuriani, is a small town in the Borjomi Valley and is 1700 meters above sea level. It is a famous skiing resort and is considered an internationally important winter sports center, which meets Olympic standards. In 2005 Bakuriani was nominated as one of the candidates to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Borjomi

A resort town in east Georgia. It is located at 800-900 meters above sea level. Borjomi is a spa and climatic resort. It was often used as a resort by members of the Russian Imperial family, state and cultural figures. Borjomi is famous for its mineral water, which is more than 1500 years old. The town enjoyed great popularity in Russia, the former Soviet Union and beyond for many years. 

 

Dmanisi

The monument represents the medieval city site, where are held archaeological excavations. There are citadel, public and religious buildings. Among religious buildings of special interest is Dmanisi Sion (VI c.), with added in XII c. gates with ornaments and inscriptions. Along with medieval stratum, in Dmanisi Georgian and foreign specialists do research geological stratum dated 1, 8 billion years, with numerous hominids and fossilized animal. Until 1991 there are discovered five sculls of hominids in Dmanisi that is unusual for one site throughout the world. Results of the excavations made strong influence on the international scientific society and completely changed previously accepted idea of dissemination of hominids from the Africa.

 

Uplistsikhe

An ancient rock-hewn town.  Uplistsikhe is identified by archaeologists as one of the oldest urban settlements in Georgia. It is located 10  kilometers east of the town of Gori (Shida Kartli), on the left bank of the river Mtkvari. From the earliest antiquity (VI-IV century BC) Uplistsikhe was an urban-type settlement, which later became a city center.

 

Vardzia

A cave monastery ensemble.  This is an artistic monument of culture of the XII-XIII centuries. It is located in historical Javakheti, Aspindza district, on the left bank of the river Mtkvari. The monastery complex was being built from 1156-1203 AD. The settlement was consecrated on the 15th of August in 1185 by Queen Tamar.

 

Joseph Stalin Museum

The Joseph Stalin Museum is a museum in Gori, Georgia dedicated to the life of Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union, who was born in Gori. The Museum retained until recent years its Soviet-era characteristics. The museum has three sections, all located in the town's central square. It was officially dedicated to Stalin in 1957. With the downfall of the Soviet Union and independence movement of Georgia, the museum was closed in 1989, but has since been reopened, and is a popular tourist attraction.
